PRENUT

PRENUT
PREloads of mixed NUTs for diabetes prevention

An international clinical trial evaluating mixed nuts as a prandial strategy for type 2 diabetes prevention.

PRENUT is an international, multi-centre randomized clinical trial designed to assess whether consuming mixed nuts before meals can help prevent type 2 diabetes in high-risk individuals.

About PRENUT clinical trial

About the PRENUT trial

The PRENUT trial will evaluate the effect of consuming 20 g of mixed nuts 30 minutes before each main meal, three times per day, in addition to standard care, compared with standard care alone.

The study will include adults with prediabetes and other major risk factors for type 2 diabetes, including obesity, family history of type 2 diabetes and a high diabetes risk score.

The main goal of PRENUT is to generate high-quality clinical evidence on the role of mixed nuts as a practical nutritional strategy for type 2 diabetes prevention.

Why PRENUT?

Type 2 diabetes is one of the major global public health challenges. Although lifestyle and dietary interventions are central to diabetes prevention, there is still a need for practical, evidence-based strategies that can be implemented across different populations and healthcare settings.

Previous research suggests that nuts may help reduce postprandial glycemia and improve glycemic control and cardiometabolic risk factors. The PRENUT trials aims to determine whether consuming nuts before each main meal can be a nutritional strategy to prevent type 2 diabetes.
